The saga of the gown from Hoi An – The dress never did fit right. They didn’t do the last alterations as promised and left a lot of chalk marks on the sides. So this morning, one week before the Army Ball, I went to the tailor, a nice Vietnamese lady around here. She told me the dress was so poorly made it would cost me more to alter it than to buy a new one. The back is all crook and the fabric is just cheap, although I was told it was silk chiffon.
So… off I went to the store and bought another gown, navy as well, but much more attractive. Now I won’t feel like the poor relative at the ball. I think that makes the total value of my gown over $600, not including the airfare.
