lpcbc16The busy social life continued last week as Leon and I attended the Liberal Party of Canada Policy Conference for BC (LPCBC16) in Victoria.  The purpose of the conference is to vote on policy resolutions that are being suggested by various ridings in BC in order to bring the most urgent ones to the Liberal Party of Canada Biennial Convention which will take place in Winnipeg this May.

Leon and I were attended the conference as voting delegates for our riding, Langley-Aldergove.  Leon is now the president of the riding and I continue in my role of treasurer. Our interest in the riding association stems from the last election when Leon was the candidate, of course.  I’ve never been political but we have now made so many friends from the election that we love to stay involved.John and Kai Aldag

Over the weekend, we met with our former campaign officemate, John Aldag (MP for Cloverdale-Langley City) and members of his riding team, riding president Leon Hawkins and treasurer Rick Mulholland (also my colleague in BCETA).  We spoke with the Hon. Carla Qualtrough, Dan Ruimy (MP for Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge) and heard a number of MPs and Ministers speak including our Minister of Justice, Jody Wilson-Raybould and our Min. of Defence, Mr. Badass himself, Harjit Sajjan.  Leon worked with Harjit years ago, so I allow myself to refer to him by his first name.

On Saturday evening, there was a gala hosted by Min. Qualtrough and we spent quite a bit of time chatting with Terry Beech (MP for Burnaby North-Seymour) and his charming wife Ravi.  I was so impressed with this young, vibrant, multilingual woman who is an accomplished entrepreneur (you may know that I have a great interest in entrepreneurship, especially women in business).  We had a great time discussing French culture, the Ottawa region and vegetarian eating. Ravi discovered the mashed potato bar where you are served mashed potatoes in a martini glass topped with a variety of foods like pepper steak, butter chicken and other vegetarian foods.  Of course the potatoes were filled with cream, so I had the steak in a glass.  It tasted good, but I am not sure it would be appealing to many people without the potatoes.

I thought it was hilarious that the neighbouring riding each have a Leon as their president.  The Langleys are in good hands!

Saturday was also an opportunity to see a buddy who has been struggling with health issues.  I was thrilled to give her a big Tiger hug and talk face to face after months of brief online chats.

We came home Sunday during a big wind storm.  I was happy to be on the ferry, crochet in hand, working on my latest pair of socks.  I’m going to have to find someone to buy those one of these days as a girl can only have so many pairs of homemade socks!
