A girlfriend from Halifax announced that she was leaving for Cuba next week. I inquired about the location she would be staying at and she invited me to come along. She is travelling with a girlfriend as her husband can’t get away from work. I looked into the resort myself and found the prices reasonable. I thought Leon might like to come along. But on further investigation, I found the price for single or double occupancy are the same! My friend and her girlfriend are each taking separate rooms. So I could do the same for no extra cost. It has the makings of a girls’ trip!
I am taking the evening to think about it. My flight would be longer than theirs as I have to go through Calgary and then fly across the continent while they are flying directly south. As I read the reviews on the resort, I found out it is very large and I would have to ask for a specific block in order to have a room near them. Good to know.
Cuba is not renown for its food. Being gluten and dairy free has its challenges already but I suppose I can be happy that rum is gluten free! I guess I’ll drink more and eat little.
One of the things I like about the resort is that is has free water activities like Hobie Cat sailing. That is one thing I missed during my last 2 vacations in Mexico. And of course the beach will be very nice and the water is probably quite warm at this time of year. It shows promise for an unexpected holiday.
Sorry you decided not to go. As an American we can go but are rather restricted where we can go in Cuba. I went in 2013 and loved it. You, as a Canadian would be able to see so much. Maybe another time, but don’t wait too long. We Americans are offered more options to go and the island will be crowded soon.

Oh, I’ve been to Cuba before. I went in 2007 with my children. That’s when I met my friend who wanted me to join her again. She found another friend who got a last minute deal at $755 all taxes in! It would have been more for me and I didn’t exactly have a convenient flight. They were all leaving from Halifax.
I agree, Cuba will change immensely once the Americans start to visit again. And the prices will go up too I imagine. All in all though, it wasn’t a good time for me to get away. Too busy with all this volunteer work and enjoying my new surroundings. I haven’t been in BC in the spring before. We’ve only had the house for a year, but I didn’t move here till last July.

Well in the end the not so exotic idea of paying down some bills win out. This resort is very large and I think I would have felt rather lost there. And with all the vacation time I’ve had since January, I didn’t feel a great need to get away again.

Okay, I’ll go instead then!

Well if it costs $1200 for me, I would hate to think what it would cost you from Australia.

When airfares are added on, at least another $1500.
